The Hightstown High School Parents Association After-Prom Committee has been providing students of Hightstown High School, and their guests, with a night of fun filled after prom activities for 23 years. This party has become almost as popular as the prom itself and the 2008 after prom party was no exception.
More than 400 teenagers attended the 12AM to 5AM party. For seniors who could not attend prom, they and their guest are still welcome at the after prom party. With a D-Jay spinning the latest tunes, party goers could pick up where they left off and dance the night away. Have a bit of energy than needs to be worked off? Why not try the challenge of the obstacle course. Want a picture to remember the evening? Just step right up and get a snapshot with your guest or your group of friends. Have you worked up an appetite? Well how about some great hot food served to you in the cafeteria. How about trying your luck at the blackjack or poker tables? No problem, the gambling tables, where you could win prizes, were staffed with dealers ready to deal out a winning hand.
If all that entertainment isn’t enough, there are door prizes, prizes for tickets won at blackjack and poker, and grand prizes that kept the party in suspense until the end of the evening. In 2006, there were 3 flat screen TV’s and two laptop computers (including printers and carrying cases) given away at the end of the evening. Even if you weren’t one of the lucky ones to win the big prizes you could still win a gift baskets full of college supplies, gift cards to local stores (Dunkin Donuts and WaWa for instance), massage gift certificates, auto-care supplies or other fun gifts.
And the best part of the evening is that it does not cost the kids anything. During the year the After-Prom committee holds different fund raisers and makes requests for donations. This year’s big fund raising event is on Dec. 8,2007. It’s a mixed auction (Silent Auction, Chinese Auction and Auctioneer). In 2006, gifts and prizes between $10,000 and $13,000 were given away. Next year will be one of the biggest graduating classes in recent history. This will put a lot of pressure on the after prom committee to raise funds so they can create the same party environment that has been attracting students for the past 21 years.
It is the objective of the our fund raiser, the Stephanie Dara Berman 5K Run/Walk, to help contribute financially to the efforts of the Hightstown High School Parents Association After-Prom Committee. We recognize the great work this committee has done and would not want to consider the alternative if it did not exists or did not have enough funding to properly execute the party. We hope that our sponsors and runners feel the same way and help contribute to our event so the kids of Hightstown High School can enjoy a safe and exciting prom season in 2010.
